Damage Prevention Act


The GCDPC offers a comprehensive training session where member utilities and city agencies cover important learning's for excavators in the Chicago Area.  The program is available to excavators that will be digging in the Chicago Area.  The program is completely free of charge and will be presented at the excavators office.  The entire session runs approximately 2 hours with questions and answers.  To register your company or receive information regarding this program, please complete and submit the registration form below.

Presentation Synopsis:


The presentation is divided into several sections whereas various City Agencies and Utilities present an in depth look at their particular area.  The following is brief synopsis for each:
DIGGER
Covers current facility protection laws, permitting processes and guidelines that must be followed while working in the City of Chicago.
ComEd
A comprehensive look at how to identify and work safely around electric facilities, what to do if you do damage a electric facility and what to do if the facility remains energized after you damage it to insure your safety.
Bureau of Electricity (BOE)
A comprehensive look at how to identify and work safely around BOE facilities, what to do if you do damage a BOE facility and methods that should be used to avoid damaging BOE facilities.
Bureau of Forestry
A look at how excavation can adversely affect trees and foliage, to the point of creating dangerous situations in the public way.  The how's and why's are presented concerning digging around various landscaping. 
Peoples Energy
A comprehensive look at how to identify and work safely around gas facilities, what to do if you do damage a gas facility and what to do if the facility leaking after you damage it to insure your safety. 
SBC
A comprehensive look at how to identify and work around communication facilities, what to do if you do damage a facility and how damages can adversely affect the public.
